Dr Giovanni Armillota, in his article entitled "Argentina and Vatican. From the independence of the Andean country to the rule of John Paul II", opens up a stimulating dialogue with the Argentinian ambassador in the Holy Seat, D. Carlos Luis Custer, who wrote an article for the previous issue of this journal. Such article, of remarkable historic rigour, deals with the beginning of diplomatic relations between Argentina and the Holy Seat. IN this context it is important to point out that Ambassador Custer qualifies this relationship as intense, within a framework in which co-operation is paramount. In contrast, Dr Armillota, from a geopolitical perspective, refers to the r le played by Juan Bautista Alberdi at the onset of relations between Vatican and Argentina to focus on different times at which the relationship has gone through crises, including the relation of the Church with the latest military dictatorship. Even if a superficial reading of both articles could lead to the conclusion that they are complementary documents, the arrive at contrasting conclusions on the nature of the role of Church and State in our country.
}, number={33}, journal={Relaciones Internacionales}, author={Armillota, Giovanni}, year={2018}, month={dic.} }
