Rev. Arg. Antrop. The populations of Tolar Grande (Los Andes Department, N = 99) and Cobres (La Poma Department, N = 140), placed 210 and 70 km respectively from the most populated centre in the region (San Antonio de Los Cobres), were studied. The 0-4 year-old age group represents 24,24 and 19,86 % respectively. This results in high values of children-women relationship, an indicator of high fecundity. Tolar Grande shows the highest Ne (17,77 %), me (0,77) and I (0,82) values among nine studied populations in northwestern Argentina. Cobres (Ne = 10,05 %), on the other hand, shows the lowest Effective migration rate (me = 0,12). Consequently, this population is more subjected to genetic drift (Reproductive isolation coefficient = 1,76) and endogamy (F = 0,1). ABO, MN, Ss, Di, P, Cc, Dd, Ee and Kell-Cellano blood groups were studied in Tolar Grande (N = 19) and Cobres (N = 64). 6 and 8 polimorphic loci were registered in Tolar Grande and Cobres respectively; Mean Heterozygosis being 0,19 in the former and 0,18 in the latter. With these values, sample size must be considered. Genic diversity was computed including data from two other localities in the region: Esquina de Guardia and Santa Rosa de los Pastos Grandes (HT = 0,234, HS = 0,218 and DST = 0,018).
