Abstract

The purpose of the following lines is to find some areas of articulation of the concept of performativity in three instances: performativity in discourse (particular discourses and, in a broader sense, social discursiveness), the identification of gender as a performative phenomenon and performative nature of the information discourse in the specific case of the treatment of transgender identification. In this way, the presentation of the text is organized in four parts: the first consists of a review of some theoretical developments of authors who, from philosophy and discourse studies, have reflected on language as a doing; the second presents some fundamental aspects of Judith Butler’s queer theory of performativity in gender identification; the third and fourth focus on the journalistic discourse and retake some concepts exposed in the previous parts in the enunciative analysis of the treatment that a case of transgender identification - the Luana case - has had in three Argentine newspapers: La Nación, Clarín and Página/12.
