Blockchain traceability platform for organic products in Argentina

The development of transgenic foods in Argentina began in the 1990s and its permanent growth made the country the third largest producer in the world. Since its inception, controversy over its effects on the population, the environment and the economy have been present. Argentina is also a worldwide reference for organic or “ecological” food, which is presented as an alternative that prioritizes sustainable techniques and that requires adjusting to different quality standards. Although there are laws and control agencies for organic production, a survey carried out in this paper indicates that the lack of security about the origin of the products continues to be a factor of uncertainty for consumers. In the present work, the development of a platform based on Blockchain for the traceability of organic products is proposed and that allows connecting producers, wholesale intermediaries and retail consumers to register the organic origin of the products in the production chain.
