This paper aims to describe and analyze the creation of the Latin American Center for Documentation in Computer Science and Electronics (CEDINFOR), which in 1986, within the framework of President Alfonsín's information technology policy upon the return of democracy, sought to organize a specialized library with national and international materials and an information and documentation service on computer science, electronics applied to computer science, computer science, systems engineering, cybernetics, robotics, operations research and other related disciplines. The Center depended on a foundation created for that purpose, sponsored by the Undersecretariat of Information Technology and Development (SID) of the Secretariat of Science and Technology (SECyT), and financed by the Organization of American States (OAS), in addition to periodic contributions from the Argentine Society of Computer Science and Operations Research (SADIO) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE Computer Society) Argentine Chapter (currently called the Argentine Section). The presentation is part of a broader investigation into the history of computing in Argentina.
