Abstract

This case study details the design, development, and early implementation phase of an AI-powered chatbot for the Círculo Trentino Library of La Plata (CT-LP). The collection—80 % Italian literature plus cultural artefacts— requires multilingual reference, specialised cataloguing, and digital preservation. We outline the institutional context, theoretical framework, mixed-methods methodology (literature review, agile design-build, andreal-user pilot evaluation), the technical stack (Kommunicate + GPT-4o), and initial results (128 interactions, 92 % perceived accuracy, 8.6/10 user satisfaction). We discuss ethical / operational challenges—language bias, source traceability, data security—and propose guidelines for continuous improvement. Findings confirm that chatbots enhance access to specialised collections and free staff for higher-value tasks, thus enriching the discussion on responsible AI in libraries.
