Synchronous-asynchronous distributed co-design: combining an Authoring Tool with Design Thinking resources

Distributed work has been increasing more and more in recent years. However, the recent pandemic has caused many teams that were used to co-design in-situ to quickly move to distributed virtual environments; thus generating different challenges and impacting the way in which problems were being approached. This article presents an authoring tool that allows co-design mobile games based on positioning in indoor spaces in a distributed way. Furthermore,a conceptual framework for co-design of this kind of games is defined, which allows combining the authoring tool with Design Thinking resources. Using this framework, three distributed co-design experiences with synchronous and asynchronous activities are described; which allow exploring different ways of using software artifacts in co-design approaches. In addition, a discussion space is presented with some lessons learned and reflections on the subject.
