This article describes the joint experience carried out to develop a prototype of an intelligent assistant aiming at bringing together sellers and buyers in an online sales portal. Originally, the project sought to carry out an intelligent characterization of users with their short-term preferences and their geospatial features. The project aimed to provide intelligent alerts about items potentially interesting to users, always considering that it is crucial that the information is acquired in a non-intrusive and intelligent way. With the synergy achieved between the parties from the joint development of activities, many windows of opportunity arose with the knowledge of the portal analysis by the researchers and with the knowledge of Artificial Intelligence techniques by the company. During the joint work, the different objectives were adapted in order to cover the effective needs of the company, achieving successful collaboration between the parties.
