Miryam Kurganoff de Gorban, born in 1931 and a dietitian since 1951, is a pioneer of public nutrition in Argentina. After the Food Summit held in Rome in 1996, she embraced food sovereignty and, in 2003, founded at the National University of La Plata (UNLP) the first Free Chair of Food Sovereignty (CaLiSA), which currently has 68 chairs. She criticizes the agro-industrial model, land speculation, and inflation that drives up food prices. She promotes food education as a tool for empowerment and fights for healthy and culturally respectful eating.
