Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of human capital accumulation on Argentina's long-run growth, empathizing the role of externalities of education and their impact on the production of final goods. In order to accomplish our goal, a model of endogenous growth proposed by Lucas –in which education works as an "engine" of growth– is applied for the period 1913-1398. The conclusion reached is that the accumulation of human capital by one individual impairs the other agents productivity. Such negative externality is revealed as a very low quality human capital and as a subuse of existing stock.
