Análisis de demanda para productos agropecuarios en Argentina
Abstract
A complete matrix of demand interrelationships per 23 raw food products is estimated at the wholesale level. To do this we restrict the classical theory of consumer demand by the assumption of budgeting according to which income is first a1located expenditure categories. We use principal component indexes to summarize the influence of certain prices in arder to avoid problems of multicollinearity and deficit of degrees of freedom in estimation. We have constructed time series of prices and quantities consumed for the period 1938-67 for 23 food products, and we combine this information, in the estimation procedure, with cross section data on consumers• expenditures.
