Abstract

A holistic curriculum is presented for a four-month Database course, corresponding to the Basic Curricular Contents of the Applied Technologies knowledge descriptor block for Computer Engineering careers, as well as the Fundamentals and Applications of Databases of the Software Engineering, Database, and Information Systems training path for Computer Science degrees, according to CONEAU standards. At FIUBA, the reference subject is common in its two careers, and is in the eighth four-month period of Engineering and in the seventh of the Computer Science, and students who take it have prior knowledge of organization and recovery of persistent data and propaedeutic and basic knowledge of Software Engineering methods and processes. The organization of content is descending in order of abstraction, and its development and evaluation of associated competencies is based on formative activities and Project-Based Learning. The holism of the curriculum is associated with curricular integration with other courses in the study plans using UML for Conceptual Design, common with Software Engineering, and the anchoring of Logical Design formative activities in data organization fundamentals, as well as the integration of specific content by linking them in integrative projects.
