As the title of this dossier anticipates, criticism is conceived as work on the limits and possibilities of a given object. Our contribution will address the character of critique from a philosophical perspective, more specifically, from the philosophical work of an ontology of the present. To this end, we will approach it at first as a method for research in the social and human sciences, taking a distance from the discipline that seeks to reduce theoretical work to prefabricated methodologies. The critical position involves the researcher in the reality he or she is investigating, and historicizes its emergence together with the object of study, with attention to the implications between knowledge and power, within the framework of what we can call a critical epistemology.
