Ciencia, espiritualidad y religión en astrónomos colombianos: un estudio exploratorio

Resumo

Este artigo apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa exploratória destinada a investigar as crenças espirituais e religiosas de um grupo de vinte e nove colombianos que estudaram formalmente a astronomia. Foi explorado se eles consideram que essa ciência influenciou suas ideias sobre "o espiritual" e/ou "religioso" e como essas percepções se relacionam com a natureza de suas investigações. Os resultados quantitativos mostram uma tendência muito alta de pessoas não religiosas (ateus, agnósticos e pessoas sem filiação religiosa). Os astrônomos entrevistados (4 de 29) revelaram diferenças entre suas noções de espiritualidade e religião, e em três deles evidenciou-se uma relação de mão dupla entre astronomia e suas ideias de espiritualidade. A relação se baseia no fato de que eles buscam na Natureza explicações e respostas, principalmente no que diz respeito à origem do universo e da vida, e isso dá sentido às suas vidas e investigações.
