Fortaleciendo la geometría global de VLBI: Una década de ingeniería y operaciones VLBI en Argentina (2015–2025)

Presentamos una descripción técnica y operativa integral (2015-2025) del radio telescopio Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) de doble banda S/X y 6 m de diámetro del Observatorio Argentino-Alemán de Geodesia (AGGO) tras su relocalización desde su anterior ubicación en Chile, Transportable Integrated Geodetic Observatory (TIGO), a su instalación actual en Argentina. Debido a su ubicación estratégica en el hemisferio sur, AGGO contribuye significativamente a la geometría de la red VLBI global, fortaleciendo la estabilidad general de la red y mejorando la estimación de parámetros geodésicos. Durante la última década, el equipamiento VLBI original ha experimentado transformaciones sustanciales, incluyendo intervenciones en la mayoría de sus subsistemas críticos. Estas actualizaciones comprendieron, entre otras, la puesta en marcha de un nuevo back-end digital, la modernización del sistema receptor criogénico y amplias mejoras en la infraestructura civil del sitio. El artículo detalla las acciones de ingeniería implementadas para optimizar la capacidad operativa, describiendo las principales mejoras de hardware y software, así como el desempeño operacional alcanzado dentro de los programas de observación del International VLBI Service (IVS) desde 2018. Finalmente, se describe la transición en curso hacia una operación compatible con la tecnología actual de banda ancha VLBI Global Observing System (VGOS), destacando la próxima fase de evolución técnica prevista para la estación en el futuro cercano.
