Estación Permanente GPS "ACON". Instalación y funcionamiento. Monte Aconcagua. Mendoza, Argentina
Abstract
The SIGMA project (Mauna Aconcagua GPS Research System) is an effort toward the scientific-technologic development within the Parque Provincial Aconcagua, that will link natural and anthropic processes with the variables to be developed for controlling the environment. The scientific frame of the SIGMA project is funded by the research project PIP No. 5759/05 financed by CONICET, and the project Investigación y Desarrollo (Research and Development) No.06/G358 financed by the Secretaría de Ciencia y Técnica of the UNCuyo. The SIGMA project comprises research in the fields of geodetics and geophysics, and indirectly in glaciology, geology and geomorphology. It will develop basic knowledge for the programming and executing of steps for the management of mountain ecosystems, leading to preservation and restoration to alleviate natural hazards. A permanent GPS station, named ACON, and a height meteorological station were installed at the summit. This work gives account about the methodology used to install the GPS ACN PS in the summit of Mt. Aconcagua, and the trial stages carried out with the equipment.
