Características sociodemográficas, nutrición y salud bucal en mujeres adultas mayores de Miramar, La Habana, Cuba

Las determinantes sociales, el estado nutricional y oral impactan la calidad de vida en la tercera edad. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar las relaciones entre el perfil sociodemográfico, el estado nutricional y la salud oral de mujeres de 60 a 79 años. Para ello, se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal entre abril y junio de 2024, incluyendo 30 mujeres residentes en Miramar, La Habana, Cuba. Se recopilaron datos sociodemográficos, se realizaron mediciones antropométricas y un examen oral. Se calcularon los Índices cintura-cadera e Índice de masa corporal (IMC). Se aplicó la Mini Encuesta Nutricional (MEN) y el Índice de Salud Bucal Geriátrico. Para el estudio de las relaciones multidimensionales se aplicó el Análisis de Correlación Canónica Generalizada Regularizada. La edad media fue de 69,8 años, con predominio de mujeres jubiladas y universitarias. El IMC promedio de 29,7 kg/m² indicó sobrepeso, con exceso de adiposidad abdominal. Con una media de 12 dientes perdidos, el 40% percibió su condición oral como regular. En esta muestra de mujeres mayores, las variables antropométricas presentaron asociaciones estadísticamente significativas. Las variables orales (dientes perdidos y necesidad de prótesis) y sociodemográficas (convivencia y tipo de hogar) mostraron patrones relevantes, pero no concluyentes, que sugieren vínculos plausibles entre exceso de adiposidad, pérdida dentaria y entorno social, en consonancia con la literatura internacional. La MEN no detectó adecuadamente la malnutrición por exceso, reforzando la necesidad de indicadores antropométricos en la evaluación geriátrica.
