The paper focuses on the relationship between quality and export destination. We present a general model indicating that when the constant elasticity of substitution utility function has non-homothetic preferences, if production costs meet certain assumptions, the quality increases with the intensity of preference for quality and specific transport costs while decreases or is unrelated to ad valorem transports costs. Then, we develop a case showing that firms offer higher quality to richer and more distant countries, as documented by empirical papers.
