La industria vitivinícola en la Argentina
Abstract
This paper analyzes the historical evolution of wine consumption in Argentina, on the basis of the usual demand variables. Several subperiods are considered between 1943 and 1970. The evidence so developed shows that price elasticities have been declining through time as well as income elasticities. The process took place simultaneouwsly with a decrease in the price of wine and a moderate but steady increase in income. The results so obtained are used to project levels of consumption 1980, under various assumptions. In turn, demand, projections are proposed to be used as guidelines to check the evolution of new vineyards in order to avoid overproduction.
