Abstract

Jota, a traditional musical genre of Spanish culture and which has received the candidacy file accrediting it to be included on the Representative List for declaration as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, represents a fair recognition of the genre in which researchers such as Marta Vela continue to contribute valuable information and thus vindicate the importance of the jota in the context of serious European music throughout the 19th century.
