Resumo

Este estudo recolhe a origem, a evolução histórica e os resultados e evidências científicas das investigações mais relevantes das últimas décadas sobre o emparelhamento emoções-música. As principais taxonomias das emoções são revistas, após clarificação e conceptualização do termo emoção, qualificando a diferença com outros termos, como sentimento e estado de espírito. Este trabalho centra-se especificamente na análise das emoções induzidas pela música e nas diferentes teorias que historicamente fundamentam a atribuição de significados à música. Ele também está ciente do debate, ainda em aberto, sobre se a música realmente evoca emoções ou não, se elas são percebidas ou sentidas, reais ou atribuídas. Finalmente, analisam-se os vários problemas metodológicos que limitam a validade de muitas das investigações realizadas e que têm impedido a aplicação dos resultados obtidos a programas de intervenção através da música em pessoas com disfunções emocionais. Apesar de ser um campo de estudo de grande interesse, principalmente para a psicologia clínica e cognição musical, e apesar dos grandes avanços da neurociência, ainda há um longo caminho a percorrer.
