This special issue of the journal Estudios del Hábitat attempts to maps the international spread process of architectural culture in the mass media in the period following the Second World War, assuming as a tentative time frame the one between 1945 and 1980.

It focuses on analyze the relationships and mutual exchanges that took place between the main scene of international disciplinary debate with those local or regional in Latin America.

It intends to reveal how certain ideas about contemporary architecture and the city were diffused (or not) through international periodical publications, exhibitions and conferences, by analyzing some case studies in an attempt to answer a number of fundamental questions:

How were a series of architectural and /or urban project, as well as practices and theories, linked with a specific context, presented in the international environment through state, professional and educational communication channels -institutionalized or not- in a period of radical cultural reconstruction and disciplinary redefinition?

And vice versa: How was the same project read from “foreign” statement? How did visions “from within” and the perspectives formulated “from outside” interact with each other?

Some subjects are suggested, without limiting the scope of interventions:

/ Foreign Policies promoted by National States

/ International networks which, both inside and outside of official circles, focused on spreading the architecture of a certain country and / or region. Those who were the result of emigrations or exiles are especially encouraged.

/ Specialized architectural press: foreign monographic journal editions dedicated to the production of a country or region.

/ The analysis of cities or buildings of great international attention, disseminated significantly in the media, is highly recommended.

The purpose is to analyses a series of relevant manifestations of the architectural culture in order to study the existing interrelations, not only between politics and culture but also between the disciplines involves: architecture, urbanism, art.

The publication of a first volume is expected in June and - if its extension is necessary - a second volume in December 2021.
