The emergence of the concern for heritage preservation. La Plata city in the context of its Centenary

Abstract

The commemoration of a festive moment by a particular community serves to recall its place in the world. Such events constitute a ritual representation of community tradition and customs; which constitutes its identity. In commemorating the representation of such identity, the community allows itself to keep alive a memory in ways of being lost, which then directly materializes in the practices of cultural heritage preservation. This situation is visible in the Centenary of the foundation of La Plata city, in 1982, when the concern for the preservation of its material cultural heritage emerged. This concern was expressed through actions of valorization of architectural works and urban spaces, as well as through the formulation of specific municipal regulations on the subject.
