Money, like other goods, is capable of producing fruit, which we call interest. This means that a certain amount of money, under certain circumstances, can earn more money in the owner's estate. There are many definitions that -without major disagreement- have been given by the doctrine on the concept of interest, focusing it mainly on one of its approaches as a civil fruit that produces money, and highlighting primarily its accessory character. It is also considered as a sanctioning means, in the case of punitive and sanctioning interests.
