Chance and Contingency: Disputed Universes

Abstract

Lewis Carroll was a writer and mathematician. The plot that the author develops in his masterful Alice in Wonderland unfolds within the framework of a card game without rules, or with laws that change without cause. The reading of Alice recreates an imaginary and cognitive floor conducive to introduce us to the philosophical reflections of Quentin Meillassoux in his book After the Finitude, in which the concept of transfinite (infinity of infinity) leads him to assert categorically that the very laws that govern our world and its things can be otherwise, without any reason, fertilizing the central idea of the book: the radical contingency as a speculative absolute. The present work designs its field of relevance around the exchange of categories, inputs and analytical resources between Legal Criticism and Speculative Realism, specifically focused on the reading of After the Finitude, by Meillassoux.
