Hoplias is widely distributed in the Neotropical Region from Mexico in the northern to Argentina in the southern. The genus is described by first time in the Catamarca province from Del Valle river, expanding the known area of distribution inthe western of Argentina. Hoplias argentinensis was described for several basins: Paraná-del Plata, Salado-Juramento, Salí-Dulce and Uruguay. In Catamarca, habitat modification, overexploitation of natural resources, and the introduction of native and non-native species continue to endanger aquatic ecosystems.
