A Batalha pelo Céu: Reações Públicas Contemporâneas da Comunidade Científica Argentina ao Movimento da Terra Plana

Resumo

Em consonância com os debates mundiais sobre fenômenos como a teorias da Terra plana, no campo das ciências naturais na Argentina - especialmente astronomia e física - surgiu uma grande preocupação pelo que é descrito por muitos acadêmicos dessas disciplinas como um "crescimento das pseudociências". Isso ocorreu em um contexto econômico e político específico, que incluiu um forte corte orçamentário para a atividade científica e importantes manifestações públicas de diversos atores políticos que questionaram a relevância e a qualidade da pesquisa científica no país. Nesse contexto – que encontra paralelos interessantes no Brasil e nos Estados Unidos – a presença na mídia e a promoção por certas instâncias oficiais de eventos relacionados com as teorias da Terra Plana tem gerado intensa reação. Neste artigo pretendemos abordar essa controvérsia e o processo de "construção de limites" que se desenvolve nela, a partir da perspectiva da etnoastronomia, para realizar um estudo da astronomia acadêmica argentina contemporânea como prática sociocultural.
