Resumo

O estudo da Série Lunar em Piedras Negras (Guatemala) sugere que os maias usaram o mesmo esquema de contagem de meses lunares desde a data de construção da Estela 30 (534 dC) até a data de dedicação da Estela 12 (795 dC). No entanto, durante o período clássico tardio (600-900 dC), após a ascensão ao trono, alguns de seus governantes iniciaram novos métodos de cálculo. Esses métodos consistiam em modificar a hora de início do mês ou alterar os números dos meses. Este artigo demonstra que, apesar das mudanças, os maias mantiveram intacta a regra de intercalação. A análise da Série Lunar sugere que a contagem lunar em Piedras Negras pode ser derivada da estrutura da Tabela Lunar de Xultun elaborada muito mais tarde (início do século IX dC).
