Abstract

This work is carried out on the Argentine continental margin between parallels 43° to 47° South and meridians 54° to 62° West. This margin is of the passive volcanic type (VPM), characterized by a series of wedges inclined towards the sea, a subplate or high velocity lower crust (HVLC) and an important transfer fracture zone, the Colorado Transfer Fracture Zone (CTFZ). The objective of this work is to characterize the intersection of the continental margin with the CTFZ by applying the Cosine of Theta (cos θ) to the gravity field and 2D gravity modeling.  According to the Cosine of Theta map, calculated from the Bouguer anomalies, areas are observed, in the form of an “elbow”, with high values (from 0.7 to 0.9) to the north of the CTFZ, which can be interpreted as the result of a rotary movement. The model presents structures and/or units that reflect combined tectonic activity of extension and shear.
