Effect of epoxiconazole in mixtures on Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici in wheat crop

Abstract

Fungicides are the main management strategy for stripe rust caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici in wheat. The aim was to evaluate the contribution of epoxiconazole over control of striped rust. The trial was carried out on a wheat field (Algarrobo, Don Mario) (37°53'46.70"S; 58°13'16.49"W) under a randomized complete block design with four replications. Plots of 3 x 8 m were used as experimental unit. The treatments were:  control; 0.45 L.ha-1 pyraclostrobin (P)/ boscalid (B); 0.23 L.ha-1 P/B + 0.75 L.ha-1 epoxiconazole (E); 0.45 L.ha-1 P/B + 0.75 L.ha-1 E and 0.75 L.ha-1 P/B + 0.75 L.ha-1 E, applied in Z31 (striated rust: 35 % of incidence and 3.3 % severity). Incidence and severity were determined at 15, 32, 57 days after application (DAA) and yield. These variables were analyzed using mixed models. At 15 and 32 DAA, incidence in flag leaf and in the three lower leaves was lower in the treatments with epoxiconazole compared to the double mixture PB and control. At 15, 32 and 57 DAA, severity was lower in the epoxiconazole treatments than in control and double mixture. There was a significant contribution of 1438 Kg.ha-1 in the performance of the double mix treatment. The yield increase was greater than 4000 Kg.ha-1 in the treatments with epoxiconazole. The incorporation of epoxiconazole to the mixture showed promising results in the crop health and productivity.
