This paper analyzes the behaviour of the total input productivity index in the industrial sector of Argentina, for the period 1935-85. Its trends and variations are analyzed for different subperiods. Then, the argentine industrial performance is compared with the ones observed in different countries that experienced a big increase in their industrial exports. Due to the great variability registered in the behaviour of the total input productivity index in the period under study, other indexes are estimated. The first one try to adjust the inputs by its rates of unemployment (both labor and capital), and the second suggest the use of different approaches that measures potential output and the application of production frontiers to separate efficiency from productivity.
