This paper analyzes land using intensity problem in the pampean agrarian sector, both from a private and social point of view, remarking implications for agricultural economic policy. Under the assumption of existence of economic rationality highly generalized, and facing it with the empirical verification that there are different land using intensities, it is concluded that there must be in the sector a particular technological context. This context makes sure that in the presence of changes in the sectoral prices-cost relation, there will be sensible – changes in sectoral production and in land using intensity. A corollary is that if they are justified changes in terms of opportunity prices and costs, there will be significative increases in economic surplus for the economy as a whole. The fact of this surplus allows to find agricultural economic policy schemes hat could improve simultaneously disposable real income for all economic sectors. These results of generalized improvements suggest, on their turn, the feasibility of those schemes.
