Abstract

It attempts to show the relationship among foreign private investment, industrial development and the patterns of international trade which could be observed in the world after the Second War. This work emphasizes the following aspects: 1) International qualitative differences of the human factor. 2) Differences in production functions between countries. 3) Differences in the stage of evolution of the traded manufactured goods (new goods vs. mature goods). Reference is made also to the existence of oligopolistic enterprises in the international trade and to the relations between the process of import substitution and the direct foreign investment.
