Abstract

EKOA is an initiative of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata that since 2009 has set out to provide a solution to the problem of electronic waste by working for digital inclusion, social equity, education and environmental protection.

With the aim of transforming a problem into benefits for society and the environment, EKOA implements a circular and social economy model. Among its many activities are the technological reuse of electrical and electronic devices for donation to various institutions in the country, contributing to digital literacy, the reduction of the social gap in vulnerable sectors of the community, job training and environmental education, the provision of safe disposal of WEEE and the involvement of the entire community. Added to this model are actions that promote strategic alliances, R&D activities, involvement of university students, and actions that result in fairer and more sustainable societies.
