Keywords:
Bureaucracy, Administration, Executive, Dysfunctions, modelAbstract
This paper presents a journey through the literature that studies the characteristics of professional organizations, also known as professional bureaucracies. Within these organizations are usually included hospitals and universities, because they share certain aspects to consider: have a lot of professionals or specialists who develop the basic activities that justify their existence, lots of established rules controlling their functioning and a training process that is developed outside the organization.
A very important observation that came before the analysis, although preliminary, shows that is very important that whoever directs these organizations should take more time and effort on guiding, directing, and leading the members of the organization, the professionals, to achieve the purpose of the organization, because he has to balance the characteristics of the bureaucratic model and the specific aspects of professional working, trying to solve the problems or dysfunctions that seem specific to these organizations.
