Abstract

Mollusks have managed to expand and colonize different terrestrial, marine and freshwater environments. Among them, the asian clam (Corbicula fluminea) stands out as an invader of freshwater systems in Argentina. The objective of this work is to report for the first time the asian clam C. fluminea in the province of San Juan, expanding its distribution in Argentina. The shells were collected on the banks of the San Juan River at the foot of the Ullum Hydroelectric Power Plant. The report of this species is important since in the province and in the region, it provides useful information to the authorities to develop management strategies that allow evaluating and mitigating the impact on the populations of native aquatic organisms.
