Masculinidad y demanda de ayuda en campesinos adultos mayores

Resumen

Investigación cualitativa en un grupo de hombres adultos mayores expuestos a un desastre natural. Los resultados permiten afirmar que el grupo de hombres de más edad (65 años en adelante) se encuentran en situación de mayor vulnerabilidad social después del terremoto de febrero de 2010, que aquellos de 57 a 64 años. Lo anterior podría explicarse tanto por su avanzada edad como por su asimilación a los valores tradicionales asociados a la masculinidad tradicional, la cual inhibe la demanda de ayuda en un contexto de ruralidad. De lo anterior se sugiere que desarrollen políticas públicas que tomen en consideración la realidad particular que viven los hombres adultos mayores en términos de implementar programas de apoyo basados en aspectos que favorezcan la salud de los hombres expuestos a experiencias altamente estresantes, por ejemplo: fortalecer sus redes sociales y familiares, y adecuación de las intervenciones a los códigos de la masculinidad.
