Abstract

In the present work 40 honey samples from 7 different regions of Buenos Aires province, Argentina, were analyzed: Paranaense province, Espinal province: Talar and Caldén districts, Pampeana province, Oriental, Occidental and Austral districts and finally Monte Province. The palinological analysis showed that half of the samples were from monofloral honeys. Samples were characterized by their antioxidant capacity (DPPH and FRAP), total phenolic content (TPC), ash and colour. Samples from different regions showed significant differences among their antioxidant activity (DPPH), ash and colour (p ≤ 0,05). However, samples from different botanical origin only showed significant differences in their ash content (p ≤ 0,05). The present results suggest that Buenos Aires honeys could be better classified by their geographical origin rather than their botanical origin.
