Abstract

Evaluation of the sustainability of agroecosystems requires development of indicators that allow inferring compliance with the processes involved in their stability and resilience. The assemblage of carabids (Coleoptera) in a wine agroecosystem of Berisso, Buenos Aires, was studied as an estimative tool of its operation and sustainability. Carabids were collected with pitfall traps. Its richness represents 16,6% of the total of these insects of the Berisso district and 9.94% of that of the Buenos Aires province, which represents much of the region's diversity. Its structure shows a staggered distribution of specific dominance. A greater richness and abundance in the plot of vine than in the surrounding environments was observed. Both the cast and the habitat preferences of the integrating species reflect an important degree of local micro-environmental heterogeneity. The dominant and eudominant species were the same the annual periods sampled and, these species and many of the others are associated with riparian forests and / or hydrophilic environments, indicating conditions of environmental uniformity generated by flood pulses. For all the bioecological characteristics, both the particular species and the assemblage as a whole have responded positively to environmental and disturbance variables, acting as effective bioindicators of the biotic functioning of this agroecosystem. The microenvironmental complexity linked to biodiversity within these agroecosystems favors the presence of organisms that contribute to the fulfillment of ecological processes associated with their sustainability.
