Abstract

Political trust is a multidimensional construct of a relational and evaluative nature. It is a very relevant concept to analyze political attitudes, support for democracy, positions on public policies and a broad repertoire of political participation. However, its evaluation remains problematic. For this reason, we set out to develop a contribution by constructing a typology (factor analysis and classification) using data produced by The Latin American Public Opinion Project (LAPOP) for Argentina (N =1512). Through this strategy, we were able to verify its internal structure, differentiate types of objects towards which trust is directed, demonstrate the contribution of content related to the evaluative component to interpret each factor and characterize four differentiated groups of participants. These findings, together, constitute a contribution to the greater adjustment between the conceptual and instrumental development of political trust, and are consistent with recent precedents that have delved into the dimensional nature of this construct.
