Abstract

The history of Hispanic American economic thought during the Spanish and Portuguese domination covers more than three centurias but is still nearly not explored. The "Indian" Economics grow as a product of three schools closely connected and almost superposed: The scholastic, initiated by J. Matienzo and T. Mercado, and developed by P. Oñate and D. Avendaño; the mercantilist impulsed by C. Columbus, V. Quiroga, J.M. Peramás, F. Alfaro, G. Escalona y Agüero and Bravo de Laguna; and the classical school developed in the last decades of the colonial period, represented by M. Belgrano, J. Camacho, D. Padilla, S. Lisboa, Cecilio del Valle y A. Cerviño.
