Cambio tecnológico y precios: su impacto en la ganadería argentina 1923-1969
Keywords:
ganaderíaAbstract
This paper examines the role of prices in determining desired levels of cattle numbers in Argentina in three subperiods between 1923 and 1969, using a Nerlovian approach. The results support the hypothesis that beef prices are instrumental in determining producers`behavior, even though their influence changes through time in line with the prevalent economic policies. Technical change becomes a relevant variable to explain recent history (1953-1969) of the Argentine cattle industry. The paper concludes with some reflections on possible lines of development of this outmost important sector in Argentine agriculture.
