Abstract

This is a theoretical class overview for 3rd-year-high school students attending the subject of Ethics and Citizenship. It is based on a guided reading of bibliographic material, the explanatory moderation by the teacher, and the reflection and debate by students. It aims to understand the rule of law as a state whose purpose is to guarantee certain individual rights, emphasizing the inseparable connection between the rule of law and human rights. Thus, the latter are characterized as limits to the state power, conceived as the inherent rights of individuals, related to the rule of law to achieve a balance between the individual and the state, and to highlight the ethical primacy of what is just over what is good.
