Read to write. A literary approach to the writing of narratives in the English language

Regarding the close relationship between literature and foreign language teaching, we are interested in delving deeply into the analysis of literary texts as authentic/genuine and effective samples/ to work written production with undergraduate students in the Teaching and Translating courses at Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación. In this article, we share some tasks which are part of a writing workshop whose aim is to offer students more opportunities to get extra writing practice in English so as to strengthen and support all the work done in language courses at university. Working with Face, the novel written by Benjamin Zephaniah (1999) as our main input, we look forward to fostering metalinguistic reflection and the analysis of narrative genre as previous activities to writing tasks.
