Abstract

In this article we will describe one of the investigations that we carry out at the Area of Interdisciplinary Activities on Discriminatory Behaviour of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. We will focus on the link between the radicalisation of action and opinion (McCauley; Moskalenko, 2017) present in young people and the impact of new information and communication technologies to try to understand some of the edges of the phenomenon (Han, 2021; Gurri, 2023). And we will also explore a central aspect of how social networks work today: recommendation algorithms (Deepjyoti; Mala, 2022). We will take as an example a particular case that will allow us to show the internal mechanisms of radicalisation and extrapolate certain patterns of behaviour that we observe today. During the research, it was discovered that a young Argentinean man not only made hate publications on his open social networks, but also participated in online extremist groups on encrypted networks.
