Burnout, COVID-19 pandemic and equine-assisted approach, IPAE model

The stress produced by the COVID-19 pandemic originates a negative reaction in the biopsychosocial health of the staff working in this area, causing physiological activation, emotional distress, deficits in their coping strategies and poor performance in attention. Equine-assisted learning activities applied to the expansion of capacities to cope with stress and work exhaustion allow to acquire or expand these capacities, preventing the burnout syndrome. We propose the use of this transdisciplinary intervention to collaborate in the learning of more assertive coping mechanisms in face of this adverse situation, to provide a space for human-horse contact and to make a contribution on the need to offer responses to the traumatic effects derived from this pandemic crisis. Likewise, we share the experiences so far gathered from the 1 Burnout Prevention Program for Health Personnel.
