Comparing empirical studies on diversity in organizations shows dissimilar results, some that support its benefits and others that do not ensure its realization, or that consider it harmful. Taking into account these inconsistencies, this article seeks to investigate the main tensions generated in the results on how individual differences affect the functioning of work teams. To achieve this, ten articles from scientific journals are chosen and divided for analysis into two topics: view of diversity raised and organizational or contextual variables mentioned as conditioning factors of various teams. The comparison of variables shows that there are influential factors that exert some consensus and others that depend on the type of organization.
