Exporting SMEs. Which are the determinant variables?

In this paper it was performed a descriptive analysis of SMEs in Latin America in relation to the following aspects: access to financing through financial institutions, internationalization of firms, size of firms and internationally recognized quality certification. Moreover it was also examined whether the export status of the SMEs is related to variables: access to financing, firm size and internationally recognized quality certification for this Pearson chi2 tests were performed. The Database Survey of Enterprise Surveys (2010) from the World Bank was processed. From the results of the work performed it can be highlighted from the group of countries analyzed that a significant percentage of SMEs has no access to bank financing. Also, from the association between the export status and variable access to financing, firm size and quality certification recognized internationally, it can be concluded that the associations are not significant for all the countries studied, there remains in disparity evidence presented by some countries and the importance of carrying out public policies specified for eachone contemplating their peculiarities.
