Author Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted must be original or partially original and may not be texts that have been simultaneously submitted for consideration for publication in another journal. Authors should include, at the beginning of their manuscript, a page with the following information:

  • Full title of the paper, with a maximum of 80 characters with spaces
  • Abstract, with a maximum of 1,000 characters with spaces
  • Keywords, up to 5, not included in the title
  • Full name of each of the authors, indicating also the maximum title achieved, institutional affiliation, ORCID and contact e-mail. For example: Gabriel Mario Bilmes, Dr. in Physics, Centro de Investigaciones Ópticas (UNLP-CIC-CONICET), https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9301-7220, gabrielb@ciop.unlp.edu.ar
  • In the case of central articles, a black and white photo of each of the authors in 5x5 size (minimum 300 dpi) in JPG format should also be sent in separate files.
  • Contributions should be uploaded directly through the submission system of the CTyP website
  • If the manuscript has been previously shared as a preprint in a public access repository, please indicate the URL of the repository.

If you need help in completing a submission, you may consult these instructions for authors.

Declaration of authorship

  • If the article has three or more authors, the collaborative roles of each one should be specified, according to the CRediT taxonomy, which typifies 14 collaborative roles in scientific academic production. The most common role is “Writing - reviewing and editing”, although each author may occupy more than one role. An explanation of the roles in Spanish can be found on this Caicyt page and also here
  • In texts with multiple authorship where the nature of the research does not justify a discrimination of work roles, it is suggested to include a note indicating “All authors contributed equally to the realization of this article”.

General text format

  • Papers should be generated with standard word processing programs (Microsoft Word, LibreOffice or others) and submitted in doc, docx or odt format.
  • The maximum length for “Core Articles” is 30,000 characters with spaces, and for “STS course papers and other contributions” 25,000 characters with spaces. In both cases references must be included within the maximum characters. Articles that do not meet this condition will be automatically rejected.
  • The page size should be A4, and use in the body of the text single line spacing, Arial 12 font, standard margins (2 cm on each side).
  • It is suggested to reduce notes to the minimum possible (maximum 2 per page) and limit their content to amplifications or clarifications of matters developed in the text. Notes should not be used to replace bibliographic citations, and should be included with single spacing and Arial 10 font.
  • Arial 14 font and bold type should be used for the main title. For the first level subtitles, Arial 13 and bold type should be used, while for the second and higher levels Arial 12 and bold type should be used. Subtitles should not be numbered.
  • In general, and unless necessary, articles should be written in impersonal mode.
  • All foreign language words should be written in italics.
  • If inclusive language is used, we recommend consulting the following guidelines:

Tables, figures and graphs

Tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals in the order in which they appear in the text, and include above the table the number and a brief descriptive legend of its contents.

Figures and graphics must be incorporated into the text and must be sent in separate files, in the highest possible quality. The resolution of the images should not be less than 300 dpi. Under each figure or graph should be included the respective number (with Arabic numerals) and a clear explanation of the content of the figure, so that it is not necessary to resort to the text for its understanding. The units should be clearly indicated and contain the notes and sources used. The format should be png, tiff or jpeg. The digital edition of the journal may include color images, although only black and white figures will be accepted for the printed edition. Therefore, the submission of black and white images is a requirement, while color is optional.

Citations and bibliographic references

Bibliographic citations should be integrated into the body of the article, and the complete references of all material cited in the text should be included at the end of the article in the References section, respecting the APA seventh edition standards. It is recommended that articles contain no more than twenty bibliographical references, and for their correct preparation, it is possible to consult the material available at http://www.normas-apa.org/.

Example of reference for books: The last name followed by a comma and the initial of the first name (or names) preceded by a comma.

Zanetti, S. (2002). La dorada garra de la lectura: Lectoras y lectores de novela en América Latina. Rosario: Beatriz Viterbo.

Example of reference for a book chapter: Do not use quotation marks for the chapter title. Use (pp. xx-xx) to indicate pages and “En” to introduce the title of the book. In case of having edition and volume indicate it before the pages.

Vidal, A. (2018). Science, philosophy and nature in the late Merleau-Ponty. In S. Solas (Comp.), Actas del Coloquio Internacional Sobre el pensamiento de Merleau-Ponty, (pp. 153-167). Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación. https://libros.fahce.unlp.edu.ar/index.php/libros/catalog/book/105

Example of reference for a journal article: If the journal has a volume, write it in italics and then, in parentheses, indicate the number of the publication without italics and in Arabic numerals, with no space between one and the other. If the journal does not have a volume, omit the missing elements. If the journal is electronic or has a digital version, indicate the URL or DOI (digital object identifier) that will allow identification of the digital object. Do not use the abbreviation “p.” when indicating pages in journal references. Do not use En when entering the title of the journal.

Example reference for research datasets: According to data citation standards, the format includes: authors, date, title of the dataset in quotation marks, persistent identifier of the dataset (usually DOI), name of the repository where it was deposited and version number.

Goñi, Sandro; Mattioli, Nicolás Gabriel; Olivera, Daniela; Salvadori, Viviana, 2024. “Measurement of food color in CIELAB space from images”, https://doi.org/10.35537/10915/165649, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, V1.

When the article includes textual citations to other texts:

  • If the quotation is less than 40 words long, it should be written in quotation marks and in the same paragraph.
  • If the quotation is longer, it should be included in a separate paragraph, indented, without quotation marks and single-spaced.
  • Additions made within a textual quotation should be enclosed in square brackets.

Proofreading and abstracts

Once approved, the articles will be submitted to an editing process that involves a grammatical review and style correction by the CTyP Editorial Committee, and an abstract in English and Portuguese will be included. Both the abstract and the title of the paper may be modified by the Editorial Committee. In all cases the final version of the articles, with revisions and abstracts, will be subject to the approval of the authors.

Compliance with this set of rules and recommendations is a prerequisite for publication. Articles will not be published if, after acceptance, they are not adjusted to these standards by the authors.
