Mindfulness has become increasingly popular in therapeutic and non-therapeutic venues as a way to address stress, change, and uncertainty. Here we share our understanding of mindfulness and mindfulness practice, and a summary of our research findings on original music stimuli that may support these practices. We share the specific musical features that participants in our four exploratory studies found effective, preferred and useful. Further research is still needed to investigate clinical outcomes. However, this information may provide a starting point for clinicians to explore the creation of their own music for mindfulness practice. References to the published research reports are provided for the interested practitioner.
